What Should You Do If Child Development Stages Are Not Reached?

When your baby begins smiling at you and cooing, this is a very exciting time in your life and your baby's. You want to show everyone how well they are developing and you begin looking for other child development stages that he or she will go through as well. However, what happens when your child does not go through these child development stages?

The first thing you should do is to contact your doctor and see what they suggest you do. Most of the time, the doctor will probably want to watch the child closely to see if your child will catch up at the next milestone. These child development stages are created as a general guideline but it does not mean that every child will develop within every stage that is suggested. This is only a guideline that doctors and parents can expect to see the behavior develop. This includes cooing, babbling, following caretaker around with their eyes, rolling over, sitting up, crawling, pulling up, walking, saying one word, putting two words together, gesturing, and more. Each task that can be accomplished also fits in the child development stages guide

When a child misses one child development milestone and doesn't reach another one, then the doctor will probably begin checking the child for normal brain development. There are a series of tests that a child must go through in order to rule out other complications or conditions that may develop.
If you have contacted your doctor regarding one child development stage missed, and your child misses another, then you need to contact your doctor again to let him or her know. If your doctor doesn't want to do anything about it right now and wants to wait, you can seek a second opinion in order to rule out any disorders such as autism. Most of the time, when you go for a second opinion, you will encounter a series of tests in order to determine what brought you there to begin with. Most of the time, autism can be diagnosed within a few simple tests however in some cases, it is necessary to test more thoroughly.

When child development stages are reached in a normal time span or even late, then this usually means that autism is not the cause. If a child has autism, they will not develop a milestone at all or they will learn it later on. For example, speaking is going to require the help of a speech therapist if a child is autistic. It's also important to realize that a child with autism learns in their own way. You can teach your child things but it doesn't mean that that it will be a learned behavior instantly. It may take a long time before the learned behavior or task is embedded.

It's okay to have two doctors on board with you and your child if they have been diagnosed with autism. You don't really need anymore than two doctors to work with you and your child. You will also have a speech therapist and other professionals that will help you along the way.
