Should You Let Your Children Play Outside?

The major problem with today's society is that the current generation of kids are being raised in a world dominated by technology. There used to be a time when kids were always outside playing around on street corners and in parks. However these days now seem to be long gone.
There is nothing wrong with technology. We all live better and more interesting lives thanks to things like the internet, iPods, mobile phones and top of the range televisions. However they have their drawbacks as well.

Apart from mobile phones, most of these things are responsible for kids leading introverted lives inside the house. It's all well and good letting your kids interact with their friends on Facebook and other networking sites, but it is no substitution for proper social interaction.
That's why it's a good idea to encourage your children and their friends to play outside as much as possible. By mixing with other kids they will develop good social skills, which will of course help them when they get older.

Plus if they play football or take part in other outdoor activities, it also helps them keep fit and healthy. Even they are just walking to and from their friends' houses, it is still better than being stuck at home all the time not getting any kind of exercise at all.

It also gives them some element of freedom and independence. It is not healthy for kids to be hanging around their parents all the time. By letting them go off with their friends, you are letting them lead their own lives and giving them the confidence to face the world on their own, which can only be a good thing.

Finally there is the age old benefit of getting plenty of fresh air and sunlight. These are vital for looking and feeling healthy and it is always good to encourage this love of the great outdoors.
Of course you have to be careful because it can be a dangerous world out there. However the point I want to make in this article is that you should definitely encourage your children to play outside because there are so many benefits. Computer and video games and the internet will inevitably be a part of your children's lives, but they are not necessarily a problem if they are getting plenty of exercise and spending some time outside the house as well.
